As our previous article discussed the proposed open API systems in Thailand’s healthcare IT, I would like to provide an update on the current adoption of FHIR and HL7 standards in Thailand.

The first source I found is this document, published by SIL-TH (Standard and Interoperability Thailand). It was last updated on July 7, 2022.

The second source related to FHIR implementation in Thailand is a tutorial series published by Dr. Rath Panyowat. He also shares his work and applications on his personal blog.

As I recently checked with him (on 2025-11-08), he mentioned that FHIR is now being applied in the Health Link Project.

Note: The Thailand Health Link Project refers to several initiatives, most prominently Health Link, Thailand’s nationwide Health Information Exchange (HIE) designed to securely connect hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers to enable real-time sharing of patient data. This project is part of a broader digital health and Health Information System (HIS) strategy supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Thai Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), aiming to improve care coordination, efficiency, and patient access to health information.

For the standard FHIR interface, I will check again and post my findings on my GitHub. I will also update the status through my LinkedIn.

For HL7, the registration information at this link shows a broken link to http://hl7.org/fhir/sid/passport-THA.

You can refer to the guidelines for using HL7 in this document, from pages 16–22.

Thailand has made clear progress in adopting FHIR and HL7, especially through the Health Link project. Yet, incomplete references and legacy systems still limit full interoperability. Continued alignment between government, developers, and healthcare providers will determine how effectively these standards take root nationwide.
